Galvani Case: How Standardized Records Optimized Stocks and Warehouses

With a history that began in the 1930s in São João da Boa Vista, São Paulo, Galvani began its career as a beverage manufacturer and transportation company. Beginning in the 1980s, it embarked on a new phase, consolidating itself as one of the country's leading fertilizer producers, with notable locations in Paulínia, São Paulo, Luís Eduardo Magalhães, Bahia, and, later, in Ceará with the Santa Quitéria Project.

Throughout its history, Galvani has experienced significant milestones, such as the joint venture with Yara in 2014 and the resumption of controlling interest in 2019. Today, it is heavily involved in mining, processing, production, and distribution of phosphate fertilizers, directly supporting the growth of national agricultural production.

The Challenge

With an SAP ERP operating with an extensive material database, Galvani faced challenges such as incomplete descriptions, inconsistent purchasing and tax classification information, duplicate records, and a lack of process standardization. This created service bottlenecks, delays, and a loss of visibility into inventory and supplies.

The Solution

The partnership with CH Master Data | Astrein was created precisely to reverse this situation. The project included the standardization and sanitization of 13,000 items in the material database, review of the NCM classification, complete categorization of materials, and the implementation of the Registration Center with the SSA-CAD platform, fully integrated with SAP.

With this solution, Galvani now has a centralized process, with governance over new registrations and reliable information for decision-making. The Procurement and Warehouse team, led by Julio Souza, gained a modern and robust tool to more quickly manage all the operation's registration demands.

Results Achieved

  • Complete standardization of material descriptions;

  • Appropriate NCM classification for all items;

  • Clear and organized categorization, facilitating suppliers’ operations;

  • Rationalization of stocks, with the possibility of efficient transfer of items between units;

  • Significant operational gains at Galvani plants;

  • Greater control, agility and security in managing registrations.

This case reinforces the importance of a well-structured database and centralized processes to ensure efficient supply and warehouse operations.
